The Rose of Tralee

Every project with family history presents opportunity to discover and learn – I had so much fun with this piece. I wasn't familiar with what a Rose of Tralee was, but I soon learned how wonderful the festival and pageant is! Celebrating women of Irish decent globally, the Kerry County festival combines street entertainment, live concerts, markets, fireworks, circus, carnival, and pageantry. The "Rose" of Tralee is an honor given to a young woman of Irish decent (regardless of their birthplace!) who best epitomizes a modern Irish woman that celebrates her heritage.

This watercolor illustration was commissioned by a daughter of 1974's Rose of Tralee. The reference photo used (pictured) is from during her reign. So honored to be a part of such a lovely gift!
